Dr. Md. Abunasar Miah

Dr. Md. Abunasar Miah is an Associate Professor at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh, specializing in plant biotechnology, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology. His research focuses on plant tissue culture, Bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, microfluidic device fabrication, and sustainable solutions for agricultural and environmental challenges. He is actively engaged in promoting interdisciplinary approaches and technological innovation in plant science research and education.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Md. Abunasar Miah is a distinguished Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh. He has built a reputation as a dedicated researcher, academician, and innovator in the fields of Plant biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology and Nanobiotechnology, with over a decade of experience in higher education and multidisciplinary research. Dr. Nasar holds a Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, preceded by an M.S. and B.Sc. (Honours) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. His doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on advanced plant nanobiotechnology in crop improvement, pathogen and disease detection. His research interests span a wide array of areas, including: •Plant tissue culture and micropropagation •Gene editing and transgenic plant development •Nano-fertilizer formulation (especially nano nitrogen) for sustainable agriculture •Microfluidic device design for disease diagnosis and drug delivery • Plant-pathogen interaction studies using bioinformatics and molecular tools • Climate-resilient agriculture, with a recent focus on Haor ecosystem analysis using GIS tools Dr. Nasar is currently leading multiple research initiatives aiming to improve seed quality, enhance crop tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, develop cost-effective molecular diagnostic tools and electrochemical sensor for plant research. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, review papers, and conference proceedings both nationally and internationally. In his academic career, Dr. Nasar has mentored undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, fostering their growth in lab-based techniques, research ethics, and scientific writing. He also regularly conducts training programs and workshops on molecular biology, nanobiotechnology, and microfluidics for young researchers and faculty. Dr. Nasar actively collaborates with several institutions and scientists in Bangladesh and abroad, contributing to international research proposals, grant writing, and capacity-building projects. He also serves as a reviewer for several reputed journals and has been invited as a keynote speaker at various academic conferences. In addition to his academic and research endeavors, Dr. Nasar has contributed significantly to university governance. He is involved in curriculum development, strategic planning, and quality assurance activities at NSTU. He also promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in academia, supporting policies and initiatives to empower underrepresented groups in science and education.
