BIOGRAPHY

Md. Jaker Hossain graduated with both B.Sc. and M.S. degrees in Marine Science from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Marine Chemistry at the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China. Since joining the Department of Oceanography at Noakhali Science and Technology University as a Lecturer, he has been actively involved in teaching and research. His expertise encompasses aquatic biogeochemistry, isotope geochemistry, microplastic pollution, and nutrient dynamics, with a particular focus on the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) River System and its adjacent coastal ecosystems. Md. Hossain’s interdisciplinary research integrates field surveys, advanced laboratory techniques such as stable isotope analysis and remote sensing/GIS, and geochemical modeling to investigate the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic activities on water quality and sediment transport. He has published extensively in high-impact journals including Marine Pollution Bulletin, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of Hydrology, and Journal of Hazardous Materials with notable first-author articles on microplastics and trace element fluxes. His work contributes significantly to the global understanding of pollutant dynamics in tropical riverine systems. Additionally, he has collaborated on international projects and possesses practical experience in coastal biogeochemistry, fisheries resource management, and aquaculture site modeling.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Md. Jaker Hossain’s research focuses on aquatic biogeochemistry environmental pollution and sustainable water resource management with emphasis on the Ganges Brahmaputra Meghna (GBM) River System and adjacent coastal areas. He employs an interdisciplinary approach integrating isotope geochemistry ion chemistry mineralogy and remote sensing/GIS to investigate: 1. Nutrient dynamics and organic carbon cycling 2. Sediment and pollutant transport 3. Water quality and environmental degradation Using field studies laboratory experiments and advanced techniques including isotopic tracers geospatial analysis and geochemical modeling his work aims to provide scientific insights that support sustainable management and mitigation of environmental impacts in vulnerable riverine and coastal ecosystems.
