BIOGRAPHY
Biography of Md. Masum Sarker Md. Masum Sarker is a Bangladeshi physicist and educator, currently serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Physics at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). His teaching and research focus on theoretical plasma physics, particularly the study of magnetized plasmas through kinetic modeling involving Tsallis statistics and non-extensive 𝑞 q-distributed electrons and positrons. Early Life and Family Masum was born into a respected family with strong values of education and service. His father, Md. Gias Uddin, served as a Food Inspector in the Food Department of Bangladesh. His grandfather, Jalil Dewan, was a well-regarded member of the community. Both his father and grandfather have passed away. His mother, Bulbuli Begum, was a source of guidance and affection in his upbringing. She too has passed away, as have his maternal grandparents, Fazlul Haque Sarker and Tofura Begum. Masum grew up in a large, loving family with three brothers and three sisters. His eldest brother, Bajlul Gani Babu, served in the Bangladesh Air Force and is currently on mission with the Kuwait Air Force. His sisters are Monowara Akter Moni, Shila, and Happy. Another brother, Touhidul Islam Choton, is also part of this close-knit family. Masum is the youngest among his siblings. Personal Life Masum is married to Sonia Akter Soni, a dedicated primary school teacher. Together, they have a son, Md. Hasin Sarker Yian, born in 2024. Yian is the joy of their lives, and his presence adds new inspiration to Masum’s academic and personal journey. Education and Career Masum pursued his higher education in physics, eventually joining NSTU as a Lecturer in the Department of Physics. With a deep interest in plasma physics, he completed his undergraduate thesis on the subject, producing nearly 100 pages of work in LaTeX format. His academic interests later expanded into statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, modern physics, and geophysics, which he also teaches with a bilingual (English–Bengali) approach, making complex topics accessible to students of varying backgrounds. Research Contributions Masum’s primary research revolves around nonlinear wave dynamics in magnetized plasmas. His investigations focus on the effects of adiabatic pressure, kinetic modeling, and non-extensive distributions in plasma systems. His goal is to extend this work into simulation-based and practical applications in the future. Teaching Philosophy As a passionate teacher, Masum designs his lectures in structured bilingual formats (English terms with Bengali explanations). He emphasizes intuitive and conventional approaches to teaching, ensuring that students can grasp both conceptual and mathematical foundations. His courses, including Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Solid State Physics, and Electronics, are enriched with examples, derivations, and problem-solving strategies. Daily Life and Values Masum leads a disciplined life, balancing his professional duties with spiritual and family commitments. His daily routine begins before dawn with Tahajjud prayer, followed by Qur’an recitation, exercise, research, and teaching. He maintains a balance between his academic work and religious practices, highlighting his values of faith, knowledge, and service. Legacy and Vision Through his teaching and research, Masum strives to inspire the next generation of physicists in Bangladesh. He envisions expanding his work into advanced computational and experimental plasma physics, while also contributing to the development of physics education in his country.
